How is our wellbeing made up?

Our wellbeing is made up of different dimensions!

Did you know that if we are struggling in one area of our wellbeing it can affect how well we are doing in other areas!

THE IMPORTANCE OF LOOKING AFTER OUR WELLBEING

Wellbeing is a state of being happy, positive and healthy. Our overall wellbeing is made up of a number of different dimensions, and how well we are in one area often affects how well we are doing in another. At some point in our lives we all experience difficult and stressful events., which can put a strain on our wellbeing, whether that may be illness, bereavement or hardship, and this can have a profound effect on our wellbeing. If someone is struggling with their occupational wellbeing, for example, they could have lost their job, this could have an effect on their financial wellbeing, due to the loss of income, their emotional welllbeing, as they could be feeling stressed, unhappy and anxious as a result, and their physical wellbeing, from the strain the stress has put on put on their body and the potential uptake of unhealthy coping strategies to deal with the stress.

One dimension of our wellbeing that is often overlooked is our emotional wellbeing. Every year in the UK, approximately 1 in 4 people over the age of 16 years will experience a problem with their mental health, and whilst this number has remained consistent through recent years, incidences of self-harm and suicide are increasing. In addition to this, those experiencing mental health problems, aged between 5 and 16 years, rose from 1 in 9 in 2017 to 1 in 6 in 2021. A&E visits in under 18s with a recorded mental health diagnosis 'more than tripled' from 2010 to 2019.

 

At KyAnn Wellbeing we promote a proactive approach that focuses on improving and looking after all dimensions of our wellbeing, as by doing so, it can help us better deal with difficulties, develop coping strategies and build resilience.
