Meaningful Connections

Our meaningful connections are the special people in our lives who we can talk to when we are feeling stressed, upset or worried. They may be a friend, a family member or another special person in your life. The 'Meaningful Connections' resource helps its use consider the people in their lives who they have a meaningful connection with and then write about how they are there for you and make you feel happy.

What are the benefits of using this resource?

The need to develop meaningful connections with other is a basic human need. Making meaningful connections with others, whether it be in friendships or personal relationships, can create a sense of belonging and give our lives purpose and meaning through the deep connection we make with others.

Imagine being able to separate the people in our lives into two groups, simple connections and meaningful connections. Our simple connections are the acquaintances we meet and make a connection with on a superficial level, whilst our meaningful connections are the deep connections we make with those we add emotional value to our lives, such as joy, purpose and comfort.

Building meaningful connections have been shown to release happy hormones in our brain, such as dopamine and endorphins, so can improve our emotional wellbeing. They can give us a sense of self-worth, allow us to feel comfortable in expressing who we are, and build support networks.

Its Good To Talk!!!

If you are struggling with your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and/or difficult experiences, we recommend that you talk to one of the trusted people in your life, and seek professional help and support. Sharing our experiences can be empowering, as it can help us to take back control of our lives by allowing us to identify and manage our difficulties, and take positive and proactive steps to overcome these. However, we can sometimes find it hard to talk about our difficulties and how we feel; in such cases, writing these down can feel easier and less painful and can serve as a great method of communicating when words are too difficult to speak. If you are struggling to talk, we encourage you to use written word or this resource to share what has happened to you and how you are feeling.
